Frequently Asked Questions
When should my child first see a dentist?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first dental visit by your child's first birthday, or within 6 months of their first tooth appearing — whichever comes first. Early visits help us catch issues early and establish a positive relationship with dental care.
Does Kids Dental Story accept Medi-Cal?
Yes! We proudly accept Medi-Cal (Denti-Cal) and most PPO dental plans. We believe every child deserves excellent dental care regardless of insurance type. Call us at (909) 397-9791 to verify your coverage.
How do I prepare my child for their first visit?
Keep it positive and simple! Tell them they're going to meet a friendly dentist who counts teeth and helps keep their smile healthy. Avoid words like 'hurt' or 'shot.' You can also remind them that our office dog Hodoo will be there to say hello.
What should I bring to the first appointment?
Please bring your child's insurance card, a photo ID, and any medical history information (allergies, medications, previous dental records if available). Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete new patient paperwork.
How often should my child see the dentist?
Most children benefit from a dental visit every 6 months for a cleaning and exam. Dr. Kim may recommend more frequent visits depending on your child's individual needs.
What if my child is nervous about the dentist?
Dental anxiety is very common in children, and we specialize in making visits as comfortable and fun as possible. Dr. Kim's gentle approach, our playful office environment, and Hodoo the office dog all help nervous kids relax. Let us know in advance if your child has anxiety so we can take extra time.
Are dental X-rays safe for children?
Yes. We use digital X-rays, which emit significantly less radiation than traditional X-rays. We also use lead aprons as an extra precaution. X-rays are an important diagnostic tool that allow us to detect cavities and issues that aren't visible during a visual exam.
Do you offer Saturday appointments?
Yes! We're open Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM so you don't have to pull kids out of school or take time off work. Call us or book online to schedule.
