Dental Fillings

Comfortable Cavity Care

About Dental Fillings

Finding out your child has a cavity can feel stressful — but we're here to make the treatment as easy and comfortable as possible.

We use tooth-colored composite materials that look natural and bond directly to the tooth, preserving as much healthy structure as possible.

Does My Child Need Dental Fillings?

  • Cavities are the most common chronic disease in children — even kids who brush regularly can get them.
  • Untreated cavities in baby teeth can cause pain, infection, and affect the development of permanent teeth.
  • Modern fillings are quick, comfortable, and virtually invisible.

Age Recommendation

Any age — cavities can affect toddlers through teenagers. Baby teeth with cavities need treatment just like permanent teeth.

What to Expect

  1. 1Dr. Kim will numb the area gently so your child feels comfortable throughout.
  2. 2The decayed portion of the tooth is carefully removed.
  3. 3We place a tooth-colored composite filling that blends naturally with the tooth.
  4. 4Most fillings are completed in a single, 30–60 minute visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child really need a filling on a baby tooth?

Yes. Baby teeth are important for chewing, speech development, and holding space for permanent teeth. An untreated cavity can spread, cause pain, and even affect the developing permanent tooth underneath.

Will my child feel pain during a filling?

No. Dr. Kim numbs the area completely before beginning. Your child may feel some pressure or vibration, but should not feel any pain. We go at your child's pace throughout.

Are tooth-colored fillings as strong as silver (amalgam) fillings?

Yes. Modern composite resin fillings bond directly to the tooth and are very durable. They're also mercury-free and blend in naturally with the tooth.

What happens if we wait and don't treat the cavity?

Untreated cavities grow over time. What starts as a small filling can become a larger restoration — or lead to infection, pain, or the need for an extraction. Early treatment is always simpler and more comfortable.
